Acoustic secondary glazing is the most effective window-based noise reduction solution available. With correctly specified acoustic laminate glass and a 150-200mm reveal-fixed air cavity, our systems achieve up to 80% noise reduction (54dB) — consistently outperforming double and triple glazing.
Sound travels as a wave through air. The larger the air gap between panes, the more sound energy is absorbed. Secondary glazing creates a 150-200mm cavity compared to the 12-24mm gap in standard double glazing — up to 15 times larger. Combined with acoustic laminate glass, this delivers outstanding noise reduction at all frequencies.
6.4mm acoustic laminate (light urban noise); 6.8mm acoustic laminate (49dB Rw — our most popular acoustic spec); 8.8mm acoustic laminate (high-noise environments, airports, motorways); 10.8mm acoustic laminate (maximum performance); 12.8mm acoustic laminate (heavy-duty range only).
For maximum acoustic performance: reveal-fixed installation (not face-fixed), minimum 150mm air cavity (200mm preferred), woolpile and Q-Lon perimeter seals. This achieves 54dB Rw — reducing a busy main road to background level noise.
Road traffic noise, airport and aircraft noise, railway and tram noise, general urban noise, industrial noise.
